2018年4月24日・札幌。とんでもない話題に附き合わさせてごめんなさいね。ある対象を英文で述べよと言われたらどうするのか。日本の教室だったら、インストラクターは、「あなたが見たままを述べなさい」とか「ありのままを述べなさい」と言いそうです。しかし「みたまま」とはどういうことか。「ありのまま」とはどういうことか。どう述べよというのか。生徒は途方にくれます。前のWarrinerさんの本の49ページに参考になる記事があります。そのさわりを紹介しますから、これで「悟って」いただきたい。これはパラグラフの内容がlogical orderになっている場合という箇所にある。5種類ある。Chronological Order; Spatial Order; Order of Importance; Comparison and Contrast; Analogy. このSpatial Orderのところで、説明されています。著者はワシントン　アーヴィングが納屋を叙述した文章を例として説明しています。ワシントン　アーヴィングは、来訪者が納屋を見たままに描いているが、来訪者の目がとらえた納屋のある部分が別の部分とどう関連するかを、ある一つのありようで順々に描くが、見ている部分と関連する他の部分とのかかわりを(位置関係を)示している transitional expressions (下線しておく)に注意しなさいと。(残念ですが下線できません)★ It was one of those spacious farmhouses with high-ridged but low-sloping roofs , built in the style handed down from the first Dutch settlers, the low projecting eaves forming a piazza along the front capable of being closed up in bad weather.
